State Board Clears Way For Bus Buying
The Ohio State Board of Education unanimously cleared the way for buying 851 school buses for about 300 districts in a pool purchase. A ceiling price of 6 557 will guide bids. first deliveries unlikely until late fall. The board deferred bids on pricing disputes to the attorney general. An additional top aide will join Supt. Martin W. Essex as deputy state superintendent.

Driver Training Class Has Special Project
A special project in Middletown High School summer driver training plots weekly traffic cases from The Journal. Dale Ridenour, assistant principal, leads the effort with four other instructors. Eighty students are enrolled this term. 60 expected next term. The program includes 50 hours classroom and 3 in-car instruction with 7.5 hours driving per student, plus observation. A drive stimulator aids 15 year olds to correct steering, while 16 year olds obtain broader practice with licenses. Cars are provided by local dealers, and instructors include Don Alstaetter, Dave Bonner, and Paul Walker. Talks from insurance, police, and state patrol officials supplement lessons, along with visits to traffic court and the school auto shop. The State Patrol assists with vision and reaction tests.

Pasadena AP reports Surveyor 1 resumed early today sending sharply focused pictures of lunar surroundings. The spacecraft's weak battery hinders plans, though JPL notes the battery functioned during brief sessions. Photos duplicated the moon's surface after the June 1 soft landing. more shots are planned if power holds. The cell, normally at 115 degrees, spiked to 140 degrees last Friday.
