Man, 62, fatally shot in Fairfield Two complex
Fairfield Township police investigate an early morning fatal shooting in the Jessie's Landings complex. Robert McCracken, 62, was found with a chest wound in the 7000 block of Jessie’s Way. His roommate reported a break in before the gunfire, and investigators call it an isolated incident not a roaming gunman.

Veterans gain career help at Hamilton job fair
Dunaway said about 30 veterans applied to the event and more sessions will be scheduled. Tim Taylor of the eight-office Ohio group described personalized coaching from resume to mock interviews, noting some veterans face PTSD or service injuries and can be placed in civilian roles. The session featured Mayor Pat Moeller, county service officers, Lowe’s mock interviewers, and AmVets Post 1983 backing. Dunaway aids about 20 veterans monthly and the center ranks highest among eight locations.

County budget shows fluctuating revenue and safety focus
The county collected 3.4 million in 2008, then 2.9 million for three years, down to 1.9 million in 2012, and plans 1.3 million next year. About 800,000 has been received so far this year through June. Criminal justice and public safety account for 52 percent of the general fund, with Sheriff Larry Sims seeking raises and 32 new vehicles. The county will spend about 6.8 million cash on a new office building for the prosecutor, court services, elections, and 911. Commissioners caution tax budgets are fluid, avoiding a 7 percent spending hike.
