Probation Violator Sentenced for Violating Rules by Driving Kids
Sonia Ortiz, 25, who had pled guilty in a 2003 fatal crash that killed Officer Thomas Morash, was sentenced to over seven years for probation violation after taking her children to school. Ortiz, driving without a valid license, pulled in front of Morash on a motorcycle. She was arrested again April 15 after being seen driving alone following school drop off. Ortiz said she had no other way to get the four children to school. Judge Jorge Labarga criticized ongoing law violations but stated it is his duty to protect society.
