Explosion at Alaska pump station halts pipeline flow

An explosion at Pump Station No. 8 in Alaska killed one worker and injured six as a fire destroyed the pump house. Oil flow will resume only after engineers locate the cause, with suspected valve malfunction cited. The 800 mile pipeline had just faced a prior shutdown for a cracked pipe. Authorities said the building suffered severe damage but the main line remained intact.

Akron solvent spill leads to guilty plea in $10 million sewer blast

An 18 year old former Patch Rubber Co employee Dale A Gauder pleaded guilty to charges connected to last month s chemical solvent spill that caused a $10 million sewer explosion in Akron. He testified he committed the crime at the strikebound plant to stop production.

Ohio Supreme Court rules instant voter registration law effective

Palestinian hijackers seize Kuwait bound plane

A Boeing 707 from Beirut to Kuwait was seized Friday night by Palestinian hijackers who demanded prisoner releases and refueling for an undisclosed destination. Kuwait officials negotiated as army commandos waited nearby. Beirut reported 55 aboard including 42 Arabs and 3 Britons with a crew of 10.

Oklahoma fugitives arrested end two week spree across states

FBI said Earl Van Denton aged 27, convicted of murder, and Paul Ruiz aged 29, serving time for armed robbery, were arrested in downtown Portland after a two week chain of killings and abductions. They were seen leaving a taxi owned by an Oklahoma driver found murdered near Dibble, Denton’s hometown. The pair face Arkansas charges in the deaths of a town marshal and a U S Army Corps of Engineers ranger.
