Hoover Ball to Close Middletown Plant Amid UAW Strike
Hoover Ball and Bearing Co announced the Middletown plant will cease operations after failing to reach a contract settlement with Local 1266 of the UAW. Production has been suspended since May 2 after a stalemate, threatening about 100 production and 50 office jobs. Efforts via the Federal Mediation Service were futile, and the union rejected final company offers. The decision followed union resolutions endorsing company‑wide bargaining and a breakdown of negotiations since June. Corporate offices remain in Michigan.
