Palmer release bid for Lima State Hospital patient sparks dispute
A new application to release William Palmer from Lima State Hospital was filed June 2 as officials foresee an August hearing. Prosecutor Holcomb called the move an outrage, while hospital officials insist Palmer is sane and fit for release after staff found him capable of distinguishing right from wrong. The case, tied to Palmer's 1977 insanity verdict in the fatal 1976 shooting of his wife, has drawn sharp rhetoric and ongoing opposition from local authorities.
