Partial ILS at Hook Field Boosts Airport Safety

The Hook Field Municipal Airport installed a partial instrument landing system to aid landings in bad weather. FAA monitors the system from Cox Municipal Airport and can shut it off if malfunctioning. The ILS uses antenna “helmets” and an outer marker trailer to guide pilots and speeds up landings while imposing fencing and restricted movements on the field. The FAA spent about $60,000 with the city contributing $10,000 for power-line adjustments.
