Fourth of July Toll Reaches New High Mark
The Independence Day weekend toll stands at 732 fatalities, nearing the National Safety Council's 700 to 800 estimate and topping last year's 576 for the period. The tally reflects more drivers and miles traveled. A separate court filing details Jenkins land compensation for a scenic easement near the Jeremiah Morrow bridge, with appraisals placing values around 21 000 for 22 acres and related easement damages. The state argues the easement preserves rural views of the Little Miami river valley while allowing limited state inspections and tree removal with permission.
