Seagoing Students Sail on Empire State IV
Prof Alfred F. Oliver leads 419 cadets aboard the Empire State IV, a 12,000 ton seagoing classroom, on a two month voyage calling at Dublin Hamburg Antwerp Naples and Palma de Majorca. The ship, loaned by the Navy, costs about 13 000 a day to operate and cadets learn marine transport engineering and meteorology while under military discipline.
