Americans Speak English Studied After 12000 Hours Of Interviews
A 19 year, 12000 hour study on Eastern American speech by Dr. Raven I. McDavid Jr. and the Growing Linguistic Atlas project covers migration routes and regional shifts from New England to the Great Lakes. Findings include area specific terms such as chay call in Williamsburg South Carolina and pavement usage in Philadelphia, with data from 813 Atlantic communities and 1666 Native Americans. The work, led by Hans Kurath at Michigan, aims to map dialects across regions with phased completion projected over five years and $60,000 in funding.
