Questioning Cuba embargo meets crossfire in Havana dialogue
Liberal critics long opposed the embargo while conservative farmers and GOP lawmakers now press for more Cuba trade. A 2000 cash payment rule and new port clearance requirements hurt U S sales, with rice grower Dwight Roberts calling the policy nonsensical and Kirby Jones comparing the embargo to a stubborn, unmoving tanker. U S officials defend the embargo to contest dissidents' and Cuban freedoms concerns, noting ongoing trade with other communist nations and the influence of South Florida lawmakers and Cuban American lobbyists.

Slow walking may beat brisk pace for obesity study
Denver entrepreneur John Imbergame walks daily between Washington Park and downtown. University of Colorado at Boulder researchers found obese adults burn more calories per mile and might lower joint injury risk walking slowly longer distances rather than at a faster pace. The study involved 40 adults and suggests slower strolls could complement weight loss efforts amid high obesity rates and health costs.
