Driver ed blamed for 2000 fatal crashes by study
Frank Macomber reports that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety finds teen driver education raises licensing rates but does not reduce fatal crash involvement. The study across 27 states suggests at least 2,000 additional deaths annually and cautions that boosting licensing age to 18 could remove adverse effects while driver education remains unproven in improving safety.
