Red faced barbers robbed in Detroit trimming heist

In Detroit three thieves robbed Maurice Mills and six barbers after forcing them to strip and stealing about 400 dollars. The robbers fled with clothes in a garbage bag leaving the shop nearly naked and the barbers had to wait for a phone call for news since the shop’s only phone was a pay phone. The first call arrived 45 minutes later from Mills’ wife Betty.

Ex-official Porter pleads guilty in Watergate case

The former Nixon re election committee scheduling director Herbert L. Porter 35 of Laguna Niguel California pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about the Watergate break in. He admitted a conversation about spending 100000 to hire college speakers. The maximum penalty is five years and a 10000 fine.

Restroom painting valued at up to 30000 found at Ohio University

A canvas titled Ohio River Near Gallipolis by Clarence Helbrook Carter, painted in 1942, was discovered in a women's restroom at Ohio University. The work valued between 25000 and 30000 was listed on a 10 year old inventory as in the restroom, and will be sent to New Jersey for a Carter show.

Utilities urged to cut power and prepare for rationing

Senator Henry M. Jackson warned gasoline rationing may be necessary by spring if Arab oil shipments do not resume while the Federal Energy Office urged utilities to reduce power use by five percent in February. The plan aims to meet 95 percent of normal needs with a 12 day oil stock by March 1.

Saudi oil minister urges Japan to trade tech for oil

Ahmed Zaki Yamani told a Tokyo news conference Japan should seek a bilateral deal exchanging technology and industrial equipment for Saudi oil rather than participate in Nixon’s oil conference. He warned the conference could block such deals and said cooperation is possible if aimed at mutual interests. He opposes using Arab oil surpluses for SDRs and IMF reserves.

Mild conditions prevail in Middletown with showers expected tonight and cooler highs in the 40s tomorrow. Yesterday's high reached 53 with a 36 degree overnight low. 0.45 inches of rain fell Saturday night. The outlook calls for more rain Wednesday then cloudy skies Thursday and Friday with highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s.

About a dozen demonstrators at Providence College tossed eggs tomatoes and objects at Melvin Laird as he and Gerald Ford arrived to receive the John E Fogarty Foundation humanitarian award The two offered no reaction and continued to their speeches while a larger group applauded outside Alumni Hall The protestors carried anti Laird signs Some college students participated on both sides of the event.
