Carl Paight, 52, a Stamford police officer, was diagnosed with incurable cancer and given months to live.
In northeast Columbus a stolen car crashed killing 17 year old Joseph Geminden and seriously injuring 17 year old Richard Heflin. Heflin remained under police guard at Grand Hospital with possible skull fracture.
Mrs. Florence Werner about 75 died when her Morgan County home near the Muskingum County line burned. Fire cause not determined immediately.
In New York the Gubitchev Coplon spy trial draws crowds and many are turned away daily. A guard refused entry to a short stocky man without a pass, who departed cheerfully. The defendant Valentin A. Gubitchey was later admitted.
President Truman accepts Clark Clifford resignation as special counsel and returns to private law practice. White House Administrative Assistant Charles Murphy will be sworn in as Clifford's successor on Wednesday.

Two women claim widow status one American from New London Conn and one British subject from Konigstein Germany wed 1945. They say they have a three year old son and two married daughters.
