Nixon resignation linked to Wallace influence refusal
New York AP reports that Richard Nixon said in a forthcoming Frost book he decided to resign two weeks before quitting on August 9 1974 after Alabama Governor George Wallace refused to intercede with Rep Walter Flowers to vote against the House Judiciary Committee. Oil slick found near Veracruz linked to Eva Marie search
Coast Guard officials reported an oil slick in the Bay of Campeche about 150 miles east of Veracruz but said there was no link yet to the freighter Eva Marie carrying explosives that exploded and sank after radioing a blast early Thursday. A fishing boat radioed the discovery as aerial units continued the night search.
