Cleveland Police Chief Proposes 4th Shift to Target High Crime Hours

Cleveland Police Chief Lewis Coffey proposes a new 10 hour day with a fourth shift from 8pm to 4am to boost patrols during high crime hours from 3pm to 3am while retaining a five day week. The plan would place 76 officers on duty 8pm to 11pm and 57 from 11pm to 4am, with about 50 currently on those hours under the three shift system. If the Monday start plan succeeds it could roll out to Cleveland’s four other police districts starting with the largest 4th District on the Southeast Side.
