Week's Steel Output May Hit All-Time High
Cleveland AP says steel production this week may match the all time weekly peak of 2.7 million tons set Dec 7 1950. Output may exceed last week's estimate of 2,680,000 tons as heavy consumption drives demand and strike hedging remains dominant. The United Steel Workers election on Feb 9 could affect bargaining talks. McDonald’s term runs to May 31, possibly making him a lame duck. No. 1 heavy melting grade scrap price fell 42 cents to $38 per ton last week.
