Eucken Gerstenmaier, the 14 year Bundestag president, resigns amid a storm over his claim to Nazi resistance status and a 70 250 reparations payment. He was sentenced in 1945 to seven years for involvement in the July 20 plot to kill Hitler while asserting non membership in the assassination team.
