Valerie Schoen 18, a University of Michigan freshman from Bedford Township, is nominated by Rep. John McDonald for one of two openings at the U S Naval Academy in Annapolis. McDonald says her 3.56 grade average exceeds the academy’s 3.0 requirement and she hopes to study Russian and later translate for the State Department.
