In Richfield Minnesota AP report Hubert Humphrey began last September to assist in preparing his granddaughter for death. The article notes his involvement and context surrounding the family on the eve of a sad family moment.
Vicki Solomonson, 17, grandson of the senator, faced his death with guidance from staff at the Louise Whitbeck Fraser School and Glen Lake Cooperative School. She attended memorials in Washington, D.C., and St Paul, Minnesota, after Humphrey’s death.
Hubert Humphrey’s memorial service at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul drew about 3,000 mourners. President Carter and Vice President Mondale eulogized him as a catalyst for decency and energy.
