BERLIN AP The world Communist movement faces trouble as a split between Peking and Moscow widens. Premier Khrushchev’s Wednesday speech, with bombast and nuclear threats, signals nothing but window dressing to many leaders. The fear is a polarization of authority splitting the movement into two powers.
President Kennedy appoints a special board of labor relations experts to meet in emergency session to settle the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts dock strike that has disrupted commerce and halted 60,000 longshoremen. The board, led by Sen. Wayne Morse, seeks to end a 26 day dispute and avert congressional action.
Polish Communist leader Wladyslaw Gomulka voiced full support for Soviet Premier Khrushchev in the Moscow Peking dispute at the East German Communist party congress in East Berlin. He urged keeping the argument out of world view and said Khrushchev is guiding the world Communist movement correctly.
Khrushchev told the Chinese Communist delegation to drop the public name calling and seek a different path if they refuse to listen. He warned that a meeting on Chinese terms would not happen and signaled that China may pursue its own course amid rising public acrimony.
