Mismatched aid emerges in Sri Lanka tsunami relief

Officials vow to end polio in Africa by year end
Health ministers at a WHO Geneva meeting said intensified immunization could halt polio spread in Africa despite a rising epidemic. They touted past campaigns that nearly wiped out polio by 2003, but 2004 saw cases more than double to 1,037, with new transmission in Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Ivory Coast, and Sudan. Egypt Niger and Nigeria have never stopped transmission. Dr. David L. Heymann warned the threat extends to the Horn of Africa, Congo, and the Arabian Peninsula.
