Maine To Texas Ports Struck By Dock Employes
The 60,000 member International Longshoremen's Association struck ports from Maine to Texas at 12:01 a.m. over a rejected New York contract clause. The walkout echoes last October's one day stoppage and disrupts ship traffic with 20 plus ships sailing from New York and many others stranded. Union President Thomas W. Gleason said he was shocked by the New York rejection of the contract, which he called the best in the 72 year history of the union.
