Traveler stranded in no man's land

A man from Edinboro, Pa., became trapped in the gas station ladies room after gale winds welded the lock shut. Attendant Tore Heubel said the station near Interstate 79 could not access the room until workers freed the door with a cutting torch and crowbar after more than an hour.

Ohio grips by bitter weather as deaths rise

At least seven Ohioans died in weather related incidents as a cold front persisted. Elderly Cleveland men shoveling snow died. a Knox County father and two year old son perished in a highway crash. A Cincinnati man slipped on ice and froze outside his apartment. another died from injuries in Martins Ferry. Governor Rhodes said conditions are isolated with Cleveland worst hit, while National Guardsmen deployed across multiple counties. Utilities report no major gas issues. some electric load reductions and highway closures affected northern Ohio.

Government may regulate fat and salt in foods after nitrite issue

Agriculture Department official Carol Tucker Foreman said after nitrite rules are set the government may examine foods with excessive fat or salt. She cited hot dogs being 30 percent fat and warned of broad regulatory impact on producers and consumers if meat curing methods change.

Three deaths blamed on wild weather across US

Howling winds and storms froze people from Florida to Wisconsin as arctic air dropped temperatures. Eight deaths in six states were linked to exposure and related hazards. Egypt Israel swap officials for peace talks
