Striking Cabrivers Picket Company Office
Four men were arrested early yesterday in a gambling raid at a Crawford St and Wayne Ave establishment. Franklin Morris Weaver 33 of 421 Yankee Rd and three others face gambling charges. Weaver posted 425 dollar bond while the others posted 25 dollars each awaiting Municipal Court hearings. A poker game was in progress and a table with seven chairs was seized. Meanwhile 20 Taxi Company union drivers began a walkout on Sunday at 10 p.m. protesting the release of two men, with five pickets still in front of the N Broad St office this morning. Ray Collinsworth said the strike is the second in two weeks as negotiations continue. Union seeks higher pay and a 35 percent share of fares for night drivers, no change to 12 hour shifts sought, while Joe Anderson’s contract sets 40 per week for six days. Anderson and attorney Henderson Estes unavailable for comment as Estes attends governor inauguration ceremonies. Collinsworth hopes a meeting can be arranged soon.
