In New Orleans a police siege at the Howard Johnson Hotel ends with multiple deaths among officers and civilians. Snipers fire on responders, a hospital ER scene is evacuated, and Mayor Landrieu says negotiation failed.
An American flight leader ordered bombs on Da Nang without proper coordinates, hitting a western sector. Ten Americans and one Vietnamese wounded. no deaths. About six AC119 gunships and one helicopter lightly damaged. four fuel tanks destroyed. 34 500-pound bombs initially claimed, later under review. Investigation underway to confirm details.
Kissinger and Le Duc Tho meet at a Gif sur Yvette house of the French Communist party as negotiations restart after a four week pause. Tho indicates the decisive moment has come for the United States to sign the October draft or continue the war.
