The 8th Army prepares for January 22 as over 20,000 anti Communist prisoners are set to be freed from neutral custody. Plans call for a southward move toward dawn with isolation for pro Communist prisoners. North Koreans held near Munsan while Chinese shipped to Inchon for Formosa.
AP Tokyo report details Corporal Claude Batchelor of Kermit Texas saying the Communist high command ordered him and 21 other American POWs to block Allied outreach efforts. He alleged instructions came via a Communist staffed hospital near the Panmunjom stockade. Batchelor, a 22 year old former progressive, said he questioned U.S. aggression after Red propaganda and hoped to free others. He noted his Japanese wife Kyoko helped write letters to three Americans still imprisoned. The Army expects a 15 day hospital stay with possible passes, and Batchelor plans a second honeymoon with Kyoko.
Ohio state Republican leaders weighed a governor bid with State Auditor James A. Rhodes viewed as the likely opponent to incumbent Frank Lausche. A two hour meeting produced no firm nomination and Rhodes promised a statement within a week while others signaled possible runs if Rhodes does not seek the nomination.

New York two senators said Igor Gouzenko, who helped expose a Russian spy ring in Canada, gave them names and information usable for U S internal security. Sen. Jenner and Sen. McCarran questioned Gouzenko for over five hours in Canada and may request Canadian release of the hearing transcript.

Virginia State Police report most of the $160000 stolen from the Bureau of Engraving has been recovered from a farm near Centreville in 20 dollar bills. Secret Service and Treasury officials pursue remaining suspects as authorities note the money was spent on items including a new Oldsmobile.
