27 Negro Officers To Be Promoted Full Colonels
The Army named 27 Negro officers for promotion to full colonel, doubling the number at that rank and signaling potential future ascent to general. Pentagon officials and civil rights advocates stressed this as progress in military equality and career opportunity for Black officers. The move follows decades of gradual increases in Negro representation at higher ranks and reflects intensified recruitment and targeted assignments.
