Tax Ruling On Armco Property Disrupts Budgets

An Ohio Supreme Court ruling reclassifies Armco Steel property from real estate to tangible personal property for tax purposes. The shift lowers tax yields, possibly $50,000 a year, with retroactive effects to 1946 and potential refunds totaling about $200,000. Armco is the county’s largest taxpayer, raising concern for Middle town, Lemon Township, New Miami, and the county schools.
