A 110-year-old Beecher Chapel on the Knox College campus, used as a Underground Railroad stop before the Civil War, will be torn down starting March 10. Erected in 1855, its first minister was Edward Beecher, brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe. The Central Congregational church donated it in 1895. Restoration would cost between 100 000 and 200 000 dollars, and the chapel lacks footings and has bulging walls.
