Westmoreland Says More Troops May Be Needed in Vietnam
General Westmoreland says additional U.S. troops could be required to deny Hanoi its objectives and extend the war, though he did not estimate numbers above 525,000. He warned Hanoi against a long war, likening Tet to the Battle of the Bulge and noting Soviet strategic shifts while acknowledging reduced enemy momentum and ongoing bombing effects.
