Two weeks of minor earthquakes hit a sparsely populated area southeast of Fairbanks Alaska with as many as 100 tremors daily since February 10. University of Alaska geophysicist Larry Gedney notes unusual, persistent activity from a deep fault south of Fairbanks toward Nenana and the Chena River, including a 3.7 magnitude jolt. Gedney says most quakes are too small for residents to feel, and while a major quake is not expected, the swarm may be releasing built up strain in small bursts.
