Farm disaster loan bill passes House with veto override in mind
The House approved a multimillion-dollar bill to revive the Nixon-era disaster-relief program. Vote was 269 to 95 with Rural Republicans and Farm Belt Democrats backing the measure to restore emergency loans for farmers hit by bad weather. A two-thirds vote is needed to override a possible presidential veto. Meanwhile the Senate panel backed a two-month foreign aid extension and a four-month continuation for Labor and HEW funding.
