Atom Like Flash Reported Over Atlantic by Clipper Crew

Pan American Clipper pilots M. J. Fuller and John Thomas sighted an atomic like flash about 400 miles west of Ireland at 21 000 feet while en route from New York to London. They said the event resembled the Las Vegas atomic explosion and issued a message to London airport.

Parolee Who Aided Escape Hangs Self

James D. Welsh a 41 year old parolee returned to Ohio Penitentiary after being charged with aiding the escape of Pat McDermott last November. He was found hanged in his cell at 6 15 AM in L Block the warden reported. Welsh had been imprisoned since January 14 as a parole violator and had been paroled last August.
