White House Heritage Fundraiser From Georgia Students

W D Thomson Elementary School in Atlanta collected 101 dollars in nickels and dimes from 682 pupils for Mrs. John F Kennedy. A seventh grader Ginny Anderson wrote a letter and teachers signed a scroll urging others to contribute so relics and heirlooms for the White House can be purchased. The PTA spearheaded the effort after Kennedy’s February 14 TV tour.

Algiers violence erupts as ceasefire nears with rebel session

Glenn aided a skin diver rescue near Grand Turk Island after his return from a globe spanning flight. Navy Lt Cmdr Malcolm Carpenter and two divers were involved. Glenn helped pull the unconscious diver to the surface as Carpenter failed to provide air. Glenn then resumed NAS A interviews and described recognition of Californias irrigated fields and the Mississippi Delta while discussing possible weather satellite uses.

Friend Of Slain Attache Undergoes Lie Test

LEOPOLDVILLE Congo AP Miss Elizabeth Thring 22 American friend of slain U S assistant military attache underwent a lie detector test during interrogations. Investigations have sought to clear her of direct involvement in the killing of Lt Col Helen D Stogner last Wednesday. Thring was with Stogner at his home when he was shot. She was released from court custody. Stogner's wife and six children live in El Paso Texas. Though embassy personnel and friends were questioned no charges have been filed and Thring's account says the shooting was by someone outside the house.

Bargain Day in Washington Marks Washington Birthday

Shoppers braved rain in Washington to catch super sales honoring George Washington's birthday. Typewriters and used TV sets offered at cut prices while crowds camped overnight for first-come deals. Headlines announced the event as government offices closed and millions joined in the bargain spree with parades and Mount Vernon ceremonies.
