Pupil Count Down Teacher Count Up in Schools
The National Center for Education Statistics reports U.S. public school enrollment fell 2.7 percent over four years from 46.1 million to 44.8 million while the number of teachers rose 6.3 percent. Elementary enrollments dropped 5.9 percent. secondary enrollments gained 2 percent as postwar baby boom cohorts move onward. The birth rate peaked 1957 to 1961.

Major Middletown heroin raid nets ten arrests
In a four month probe, Middletown police the Ohio attorney general’s office and the Butler County prosecutor led the city’s largest drug raid. Ten men were arrested and indictments handed down by a Butler County grand jury as about 600 officers swarmed 5 a.m. warrants. Officers seized heroin with an estimated street value of 35 000 dollars a loaded handgun cash and burglary loot. The operation cleared a significant heroin problem with no injuries reported and an arraignment date pending.
