Heavy rains in Rio de Janeiro state caused a hillside to give way, collapsing a house and two apartment buildings in a fashionable suburb. By midmorning two bodies were recovered with estimates of others missing, as authorities and neighbors described a chain reaction of debris and a scene resembling a giant hand sweeping the structures into the street.
