At Thomas J. Kelly's funeral in Rock Island Illinois his son Allen 28 was arrested by FBI official Robert Wickwire head of the Rock Island office. Allen had fled to Canada in 1969 to avoid Army induction and lived in Prince George British Columbia. He was free on 5000 bond and to appear before U S District Court Judge Robert D. Morgan.

Balloon flight continues after a balloon rupture in Atlantic crossing

Balloon flight uses 26 foot diameter transparent balloons
An Army Reserve colonel spent 60,000 dollars and two years planning a flight using 26 foot diameter transparent polyester balloons. The balloons would fully inflate at 39,000 feet and carry a two radio gondola with 10 days provisions and flotation. FAA rerouted some airliners and airlines will monitor its position from Atlantic crossings.

Gasoline Drum Blast Burns Seattle Man
A 24 year old Seattle man, Daniel R. Baltzer, was severely burned when gasoline stored in a 55 gallon drum exploded. He was taken to Harborview in very critical condition after the blast shattered the front door and windows. A neighbor was injured by flying glass. Fire Chief Jack N. Richards warned the incident shows the danger of stockpiling gasoline at home.

Housing stalled in Ohio Senate over wage rule
In Columbus, a wage provision stalls a low income housing bill in the Senate Finance Committee since July. Sen. Quake shakes Manila and Alabat Island
An earthquake measuring six on the Richter scale struck Manila for 11 seconds with no major damage or injuries. The focus was 90 miles southeast of Manila near Alabat where it registered seven on the Richter scale, a spokesman said, strong enough to cause serious damage if urban. Alabat is largely rural, inhabited by farmers and fishermen.
