Plane Crashes Near Indian Hill Parochial School

Three men died when a private two engine plane crashed and burned near St. Gertrude's Catholic School in Madeira close to Indian Hill in Hamilton County. The victims were Charles Hayes 32 pilot Robert Kern 35 and Joseph Lockwood 30 all of Cincinnati. The plane belonged to Champion Paper Co of Hamilton. The wreckage lay 50 feet from the school building as snow aided containment and witnesses reported the craft tried to miss residences.

A powerful winter storm moved from the South into the East bringing heavy snow, high winds, and rain. San Francisco Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. pauses Daryl Chessman’s planned execution with a 60 day stay after a State Department telegram warned of hostile demonstrations in Uruguay and Brazil during President Eisenhower’s visit. Stay of execution for Daryl Chessman inches closer

San Quentin California AP reports Daryl Chessman, condemned kidnapper, received an eighth stay of execution just hours before a 10 a.m. gas chamber date. Gov. Edmund G Brown granted a 60 day reprieve amid appeals and last minute clarifications from Chessman’s attorney.

Pilot and passenger die as private plane crashes in Paterson

A private plane departed from Teterboro Airport bound for Westchester County, New York, circled Paterson for about an hour in wind and snow before crashing on a home lawn. Mixed rain and snow with strong winds affected much of New Jersey.

Fugitive Crum Stull at Large After Wilmington Shooting

Everett Crum, 32, escaped from Wilmington jail after shooting Ernest Wilson, 31, a Clinton Highland county line deputy, in a patrol car near Lynchburg. A large manhunt with 40 to 50 officers followed as Crum fled on foot, later forcing Rev. Kenneth Santee to drive him toward Wilmington High School with two boys in the car.
