Lake Erie Levels to Rise Slightly This Year Says AP

Lake Michigan and Huron peak about three inches higher than 1971 levels. Erie is expected to fall two inches short of its 1971 peak while Ontario may drop an inch with Superior near last year’s top. Huron and Michigan may peak in late July, Erie and Ontario in June, all above 10 year averages but below 1952 highs.

Washington reports the U S air offensive in Vietnam has begun as reports say middlemen pocketed much of last year’s food price rise while farmers received only a small share.

Hormone Injections Could Lift Meat Prices in 1972

An Ohio Bureau official warned that banning hormone injections in livestock could raise pork and beef prices by 40 to 45 percent. The FDA says safeguards prevent hormones from reaching consumers. The Agriculture Department analysis shows farmers earned less of each food dollar in 1971 while middlemen gained, with projected retail food costs rising modestly in 1972.

Bus collision kills teen as two vehicles crash at rural Ohio intersection

In Wood County Ohio a car failed to yield and struck a loaded school bus at Liberty High and Portage roads eight miles southwest of Bowling Green. Teen Anthony Tyrrell 18 died at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo hours after the crash. Bus driver Norman Sheline 39 and four students Barbara Sanford 15 Beth Herringshaw 16 and Don Kramp 16 remained hospitalized in fair condition. The impact knocked a telephone pole and the bus rolled onto the car.
