The Hue fighting area reports indicate five Americans, four civilians and one soldier, were executed by Communist forces after the January 31 takeover. Bodies recovered from separate sites show clear signs of execution and some mutilation. Identification withheld by military authorities as missing civilians and personnel were accounted for since the chaos.
Twenty four people were plucked from two lifeboats and a life raft in the Atlantic after abandoning the listing freighter Charny off Cape Hatteras. They were rescued by the vessel Vinni, with the crew of 22 and two passengers reported in good condition.
The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen suspended its strike after railroads agreed to raise the size of 50 percent of train crews, with negotiations on remaining crews, in Jacksonville Florida.
