Deadline nears for the 46th annual Women’s City Bowling Tournament to be held at Laynecrest Lanes Franklin from March 4 to 19. Shifts run Saturdays at 6 and 8 30 p m with Sundays for doubles and singles at 11 30 a m and 2 30 p m. Entries may be submitted at four association houses or to Janet Ruppert association secretary.
Cincinnati Reds announce remaining tickets for the April 6 NL opener at Riverfront Stadium. Only $5 reserve seats left, order by mail with check or money order to Cincinnati Reds, Inc. Box 1970, Cincinnati 45201, plus 50 cents for postage. Reds host Houston in a four game weekend set. Sundays Bat Day.
The Cleveland Browns under new Coach Sam Rutigliano will hold multiple mini camps in April and May ahead of preseason training starting July 17 at Kent State University. A three day veterans camp is set for April 14 to 16 at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, followed by a rookie free agent camp May 12 to 14 and a quarterback camp May 15.
Knothole registrations in Middletown total 213 youngsters in the first weekend, with Class D leading at 71 and other classes distributing 44 41 33 and 24. An extra signup session is planned at Goldman Park and the American Legion Post 218 building, with a $10 entry per child and tiered family rates.
The Noon and Evening Optimists announce a new $225 cash prize for the junior and senior Opti Derby winners, in addition to savings bonds and merchandise. Registration is Saturday at Curry Ford Truck Sales from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a final signup on the 18th. The derby, open to ages 10 to 15, will be held July 9.
Area summer baseball programs open for ages seven to 17 with sessions at Madison, Franklin, and Liberty. Madison Sports Club runs Saturdays 9 am to noon at the high school. Franklin signup 9:50 am to 12:30 pm at the junior high cafeteria. Liberty final session 10 am to 2 pm at Liberty Junior School. Over 200 youths have already registered.
Southwestern Ohio Football Coaches Association hosts a two day All-Star Football Clinic on Friday at the Coca-Cola Bottling Works on Dana Ave. and Saturday at Princeton High. Speakers include Fran Curei of Kentucky, Jack Donaldson of Cincinnati Bengals, Chuck Stobart of Toledo, Roy Kidd of Eastern Kentucky, Phil Morse of Kenyon, and Rob Franklin of Tennessee. Registration is 8 dollars for both sessions or 5 dollars for one. Bold Ruler finished fourth in the 1957 Kentucky Derby with descendants winning from 1973 to 1977.
