The Dow Jones gained 0.37 rising to 10715.76 while Nasdaq and S&P posted advances. The Nasdaq rose 4.63 and the S&P 500 gained 1.31 to 1201.72 with new highs at 354 and new lows at 502.675. Trading volume showed 1,721 listed shares on the advance side versus 1,600 declines for the combined Nasdaq and NYSE session.
David Kessler, chief of investigations in the Ohio attorney general consumer protection section, will speak from 1 to 3 p.m. February 24 at the Middletown Public Library about protecting seniors from fraud. Phyllis Clark, owner of Clark's Tax Service in Franklin, has been named an enrolled agent after passing an 11-hour four part IRS test. The 1972 Franklin High School graduate said enrolled agents can represent taxpayers before the IRS and must meet ongoing education requirements with tri yearly license renewals. Raymond Bowen Jr., 45, who ran Enron Corp finances after its collapse through last October, agreed to pay $500,000 to settle claims he knew or should have known assets were grossly overvalued to inflate profits. He settled without admitting or denying the allegations.
Cincinnati Financial Corp. board approves an about 11 percent rise in quarterly cash dividends to 30.5 cents per share payable April 15 with a record date March 25. A 5 percent stock dividend will be distributed April 26 to shares outstanding and of record April 6. Steele will stand for election to replace outgoing director Frank J. Schultheis. Four directors seek three year terms.
