A wave of cold and heavy snowfall sweeps across nine states from Wisconsin to Texas as three storms hammer Chicago and nearby areas. The blizzards halt travel, trigger closures, and cause multiple fatalities from Illinois to South Dakota and Minnesota.

Paris reports say Newsweek claimed a peace overture from Hanoi reached Robert F Kennedy during his Paris visit via the French foreign office. Paris and Hanoi deny the claim and the Vietnamese mission calls the report false. Hanoi’s Nhan Dan says talks could start if bombing ends, criticizing Johnson’s remarks as arrogant.
