Ohio Agriculture Director John M Stackhouse warns imported beef reduces available local supplies. January stock totaled over four million pounds, about 0.5 pounds per person, equating to 7,700 cattle that could have been raised in Ohio. At $20 per hundredweight, this implies $1.5 million in monthly losses and $18 million yearly, plus concerns over product quality and sanitary controls.
