Cute beats crude in Super Bowl ads
New York reports a year shift to nostalgia and cute cartoon stars as advertisers avoid last year's gross humor. Major brands feature familiar icons like the Jolly Green Giant and Miss Piggy, with safer, sanitized campaigns under tighter scrutiny to prevent broadcast objections. Keith Rutman notes ads face a higher quality lens from critics. Lay's revives MC Hammer for chips, with Miss Piggy and Kermit joining a Pizza Hut spot and Pillsbury Doughboy returning in a broader lineup.
