Judge lenient with man who caused fiery interstate crash
Lee O. Holcomb III escaped prison after a judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail for a June 2003 fiery crash on Interstate 71 that injured Frederick and Kathryn Wade. Holcomb, 38, had a prior drunken driving record and remains severely injured, with eye and hand disabilities, after nine months in hospital. He was driving a Batavia woman's car when he rear ended the Wade pickup, leading to a lengthy legal battle and a plea that dismissed other charges. The judge cited care costs in prison as a factor in the light sentence.
