President Nixon frames a $304 billion budget with a $9.4 billion deficit and an all time high defense slice of $85.8 billion. Saxbe urges governors to use force to stop illegal truckers

In Mechanicsburg Ohio Attorney General William B Saxbe urged governors to deploy force to halt illegal acts by striking independent truckers. He said a few truckers cannot bring down the country and called for action against those who throw debris or fire on passing trucks. He noted the strike has spread to at least 30 states over diesel prices and low freight rates and said U S attorneys will seek court confiscation of trucks used in illegal acts.

Blind 17 year old girl survives night alone in snow

Cheryl Beem, legally blind from Anaheim, wandered from a Braille Institute trip into the San Bernardino Mountains. She spent the night at 7100 feet in subfreezing cold after exercising to stay warm, using a rope and branches for shelter, and signaling for help. Max Howell, 12, found her and guided her to Camp Osceola.
