The Middletown Journal announces a changeover to a new production method on Monday. It will be the first edition produced virtually without lead type and printing plates, marking a dramatic shift in appearance. The issue also notes today is the last to use lead and the traditional format. Details are on pages 32 and 33.
U S security adviser Henry A Kissinger will travel to Peking February 15 to 19 for talks with Chinese leaders following a Hanoi visit February 10 to 13. The White House said the Hanoi and Peking trips are not linked though both cover Indochina peace efforts and postwar aid.
In Eagle Grove Iowa the death toll from a large explosion and fire rose to twelve with two more bodies found on Saturday A missing cook from the Chatterbox Cafe is presumed dead Rescuers suspended searches at dusk and planned to resume Sunday The blast destroyed the cafe and a hardware store and damaged a jewelry store near a 4489 resident town core context and witness accounts noted gas concerns and a near miss by a passerby
A two engine plane crashed in the Everglades about 18 miles west of Miami killing four men including pilot Michael L. Freeman 30 of Trenton Ohio and two Middletown men. Freeman owned the plane and was on a business trip from Middletown to an unidentified island. The Coast Guard reported the craft privately owned twin engine with conflicting ownership details. Funeral plans for Freeman are incomplete and investigators await next of kin notification for all aboard.
Ohio will test an experimental circuit riding public defender system in one metropolitan and one rural county funded by federal grants. Supreme Court Chief Justice C William O Neill says the move addresses indigent defense after Supreme Court rulings. A five member board will oversee the project with two appointed by the Supreme Court and three by the governor, with chair chosen by the governor.
Charles Corneil Reardon, 49, of Bel Harbour, Fla., surrendered to police and was charged with second degree arson and throwing a destructive device after a conflagration at the Concord Cafeteria in Miami Beach injured more than 100 patrons. Emergency responders treated at least 125 wounded and 15 listed in critical condition as flames enveloped seating areas. Witnesses described a container, a plan, and a dramatic set fire as patrons fled.

American Motors Corp recalls 270,815 1972 and 1973 Gremlin Hornet Javelin Matador and Ambassador models built at Kenosha from Nov 1, 1971 to Nov 30, 1972 due to possible brake failure from misattached brake pedal nuts affecting an estimated 81,000 cars.
A Cincinnati Transit bus driver stopped after two blocks when a nude woman around age 29 hailed the bus early Saturday. She said she did not know what else to do and lacked bus fare. Police transported her to the station, where she called her sister for clothing. they left together. Temperature 34 degrees.
Warmer weather is forecast for the southwest part of Ohio under mostly sunny skies. Rain may move in by tonight as temperatures rise into the upper 40s this afternoon and fall to the upper 30s tonight, with tomorrow turning mostly cloudy and highs again in the upper 40s.
Trumbull County detective Phil Borger was stuck in an elevator between the second and third floors of the county administration building in Warren for nine hours. He tried to signal help with yells and the emergency bell but had no response until morning when maintenance personnel and other detectives arrived to free him through the ceiling escape hatch.
