Kent State Indictment Challenges Prompt to Quiet Reports
Lawyers for nine Kent State University students indicted last October petition Judge William K. Thomas to throw out the indictments, arguing the grand jury report's irreparable injury taints fair trials. The judge had ordered destruction of the 18 page report but left indictments against 25 persons intact. The defense likens the indictments to poisoned branches of a poisoned tree and says the report's substance has been read and fixed in jurors' minds.
